Andrew Kirby
Sales Development Manager

  1. What is your role at Confex and how long have you worked here?
Sales Development Manager, this entails maintaining relationships with existing members, with regular call and business reviews, whilst recruiting new members. I have been with the company 6 months.
  2. What did you do before joining Confex?
Business Development Manager at Today’s/Unitas Buying Group, in a similar role.
  3. What do you do when you’re not at Confex?
I enjoy taking my dogs walking, cooking and woodworking projects. These activities are great for clearing the mind and are great for stress relief.
  4. If you were able to retire tomorrow, how would you spend your time?
Traveling around Europe, drawing, painting, photography and trying different cuisines. My ambition is to restore an old VW Beetle with my son.
  5. Who inspires you?
Apart from the Famous Muhammad Ali, not just the greatest boxer who ever lived, but a man of principles. My Mother, in my mind the greatest lady in the world. Due to my fathers career, he was often away from home, my mother more or less raised all seven of us single handed. She taught us all how to be very independent and as there were six boys in the family, taught us how to cook, clean take care of younger siblings and a whole lot more. A great lady with character, charm and tenacity, along with being a brilliant pianist.
  6. What type of business would you go into, if it wasn’t wholesale?
Probably with my son in Piano restoration, or at least the wood part of piano restoration, he could do the technical bits, although he is only 20, he can still teach his old Dad new tricks.
  7. What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
This is difficult as I have visited many places around the world. Probably one of my favourites is Rome, just because of the engineering feats of the Colosseum, the aqueducts and other great buildings, all ahead of their time engineering wise. Also the art there is fantastic, along with great wine and food.
  8. What do you like about working at Confex?
The people. We have a great team at Confex, everybody plays their part and are always striving to go the extra mile. The communication between each other is really great, with regular updates and meetings. Tom, Jess and Martin are always willing to listen to new ideas and ways of doing things differently. In many ways we are ahead of the curve in technology and working practices, with becoming paperless and the ability to work from home, giving staff a much better work life balance. A great place to work, great Ideas and concepts, great team, feeling part of something special, can do attitude, what’s not to like.
