  1. How long have you worked at Confex?
I joined Confex in October 2009.
  2. What were you doing before joining Confex?
Office Manager for 7˝yrs for Kingfisher Swimming Pools building domestic and commercial swimming pools and spas nationwide. I gained a lot of knowledge of the building trade especially in small and large plant hire and ordering materials; debt default, arranging meetings, attending Trade Shows and ensuring office runs smoothly. If it wasn’t for the building trade slowing down I am sure I would have still been there. Before that also worked within the NHS for 7 years in various departments as a secretary typing reports, arranging meetings and taking minutes. Also I have worked for the Potato Marketing Board typing daily retail & wholesale potato prices, so many different different potato varieties.
  3. Tell us something different about your life outside of Confex?
My husband has his own business, is a qualified stonemason and specializes in monumental memorials with hand cut letters and sandblasting. I do his invoices and quotes when I get home from work and we both try not to ‘work’ at the weekend as this is the time we like to spend together. I love wide open spaces especially in the countryside having been brought up on a Farm in Oxford as my parents were third generation tenants on a 300+ acre Farm in dairy and arable. The view of the Oxford spires were spectacular. I even helped Dad calve a cow and raised a calf that was rejected by its mother. I very much enjoy gardening, I can potter around all day long as I find it very therapeutic. Horror films are the best, I recently watched 21 in 8 days nothing like a good ‘jumper’!
  4. Who are your role models and why?
My College Tutor, Anne Stearns, was a great inspiration. At 16 I was very impressionable and she has greatly influenced me throughout my career. I enrolled and completed a 2 year YTS course working in administration at a Health Centre in Abingdon and moving onto the Apollo Theatre, Oxford (now the New Theatre) with day release at Abingdon College of F.E. where I gained Distinctions in RSA Diploma Parts 1, 2 & 3 in Administration/General Reception.
  5. How do you like to spend any spare time you may have?
I and my husband are currently refurbishing a 1960s detached bungalow in a beautiful village in Broughton which we bought in October 2012 and also live. I also enjoy walking and entertaining family and friends.
  6. What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
A cruise in the Caribbean where we managed to visit 10 countries in 14 days: Puerto Rico, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Bonaire, Aruba to name a few and they certainly have the ‘wow’ factor. I will never forget the experience of seeing flying fish and turtles in the sea, it was simply awesome.
  7. Tell us an ambition you have achieved and one you have yet to fulfil?
I have appeared in Inspector Morse and Gulliver’s Travels as an extra. I completed a Moonlight Stroll around Oxford in aid of Sobell House Hospice in 2008. In the early 90’s I did a Tandem Skydive @ 9,000ft for a charity for the disabled, such an exhilarating experience and one that I will never forget. I remember saying to my ‘buddy’ that it was the first time I had flown! Also I would like to cruise the Fjords.
  8. What do you like about working at Confex?
Lovely location and enjoy working with the company.
