  1. How long have you worked at Confex?
I have been here for 17 years now. I joined the firm when we were based in Water Orton near Birmingham, and since then we have moved to Chipping Norton which was much nearer to my home, and now to our new offices in Moreton-in-Marsh.
  2. What were you doing before joining Confex?
I ran a farming and horse livery and sales business for 25 years. We had 40 stables and ran a number of Horse Events too, which was extremely hard work physically.
  3. Tell us something different about your life outside of Confex?
Obviously following on from my previous profession I am still very keen on the equine side of life, but now just for pleasure. My whole family, including my grandchildren, all participate in riding and competing horses.
  4. Who are your role models and why?
My father (founder of Confex) who died in 2013 was a great entrepreneur and encouraged us all to be brave and adventurous in business.
  5. How do you like to spend any spare time you may have?
I am also very keen on the theatre and cinema. I live very near to the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon and try not to miss any plays there, as well as going to theatres in Cheltenham and Oxford.
  6. What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
I am very keen on history and art and recently had a great holiday in Andalusia. We stayed in Paradors, which are hotels in old castles and monasteries etc, and visited all the old Moorish towns and villages, with Granada being the highlight.
  7. Tell us an ambition you have achieved and one you have yet to fulfil?
I have won championships in various equine spheres, including show jumping, showing and team chasing. I am a bit old for more ambitions, I just want to keep doing well all the things I do now and for a long time!
  8. What do you like about working at Confex?
I have very much enjoyed progressing the business from a small relatively simple trading company, to the large and complex Confex we have now. Setting up Central Distribution and all the modern IT has given me a huge sense of satisfaction.
